Vesna Parchet is a figurative painter. Using oil and acrylic paint as her main medium, she paints human, animal and object-like creatures that inhabit an intermediary space somewhere between figuration and abstraction. Drawing inspiration from ancient art, Art Brut and expressionism, she depicts narratives that move beyond specific times or places. Through expressive mark-making and thick textures, she explores the deeper emotional and psychological dimensions of the painting process, letting the image slowly emerge by layering paint, obliterating and reworking the surface until the final composition takes shape.

Her figures often exist in a state of tension between static and dynamic, internal and external, stagnation and transformation. Suspended within these opposing forces, they express both a sense of detachment and a search for belonging amid the rapidly shifting realities of our time.

'
Through an open-ended investigation, Parchet acknowledges the immense complexity of the human mind and the limitations of both spoken and visual languages. Felicitous conjunctions of perceiving self and perceived world reinforced by naturalism are thrown into question. Her paintings are an interplay mediated by imagination, whereby the mind and world are brought into appropriate correspondence. The results are poetic parables, suggestive and free to interpret. ' M.
